We all found places to live. None of them needed major
renovations but most of us were busy painting and refurbishing. There was no
landlord to tell us what we could or couldn’t do. We spent lots of time working
on the house on Prescott Street, an old charmer which needed lots of TLC. Our
co-op duties also kept us busy.
There was one meeting of the finance committee that I didn’t
think much of at the time but which came to my mind later. The three women on
the committee needed to decide if we should get insurance to cover us if
something went wrong with the finances. We debated the point, well two of us
debated the point but the treasurer abstained from the debate. The two of us
decided that we were all in this together and working towards affordable
housing for the group so why spend our co-operative bucks on insurance that we
obviously didn’t need. After all, we all wanted the same thing, didn’t we?
