Fitness: Activity in History part 1



The New Year is a time for new beginnings. In an effort to start off on the right foot, many people resolve to change their habits for the better. Losing weight is a common resolution, another is to increase physical exercise. Gyms and fitness centres start filling up at the beginning of January in what has become an annual tradition. 

The line about gyms and fitness centres probably brought a picture to mind. If you haven’t been in one, you can probably bring a picture to mind from TV or the movies. They are part of the western cultural background. But it wasn’t always so. The pursuit of physical fitness for the masses is a relatively modern phenomenon.
